Track Key Agile Delivery Metrics for Continuous Excellence

As part of our continuous effort to drive excellence in delivery, we should begin tracking a focused set of agile metrics. These will provide visibility into progress, predictability, and quality, and help ensure we consistently meet business expectations.

Proposed Metrics

  • Velocity (Capacity & Release Planning)

    • Tracks how much work is delivered per iteration.
    • Helps forecast delivery timelines.

  • Cycle Time (Flow & Predictability)

    • Measures the time taken to complete a task once started.
    • Highlights efficiency and potential bottlenecks.

  • Lead Time (Business Value Delivery)

    • Measures the time from request to production.
    • Ensures responsiveness to business needs.

  • Escaped Defects (Quality & Customer Trust)

    • Captures issues reported after release.
    • Reinforces focus on quality and customer confidence.

Benefits

  • Enhances transparency and predictability.
  • Strengthens planning and delivery consistency.
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives.

Proposed Next Steps / Checklist

  • Define a lightweight method to capture each metric
  • Set up a periodic review cadence for the metrics
  • Assign responsibility for updating and maintaining the metrics
